The Alaka’ina Foundation continues supporting our community through digitization efforts of several organizations including the University of Hawai‘i Hilo’s Ka Haka ‘Ula O Ke‘elikōlani College of Hawaiian Language, the Eddie Kamae Songbook: A Musical Journey and now digitization of Hawaiian music under the auspice of the Kawaiha’o Church. Our $25,000 will support conversion of the printed music to digital forms (for music as far back as the 1800s) of many musicians with a focus on David Kalama (October 1884 – July 1963.) Once completed Kawaiha’o will be able to share via digitized media his music to churches and the public keeping this historical music alive. Among his many arrangements and compositions are Pule A Ka Haku (The Lord's Prayer) arranged by David Kalama, Hosana Mau (Doubting Thomas) composed by David Kalama, Ho’omaika’i E Kanaka (Praise Him All Ye Nations) composed by David Kalama.
